Well, today's the test of superiority between manual gearbox and Automatic gearboxes.
Our city's traffic is as congested as it ever could be, driving a manual cog has his fair share of disadvantages. First being- in bumper-to-bumper traffic, snarling slow city speeds. Engaging and disengaging the clutch to slot the gears and to get a move on is physically daunting task. If you drive around in city(Mumbai, Banglore/ any city for that matter) then navigating through the traffic is bound to give you strong calf-muscles which would put Olympic athlete to shame. That said the drive after work, or a casual Sunday drive often stresses the driver as opposed to being relaxing.
This where Automatic transmission--has its merits printed in bold, golden letters "Easy, fatigue free to drive".
The benefit of having a clutch free car is paramount if city commuting is what you do most the time. The added convenience obviously comes with extra price. Men, Women find it extremely convenient to drive a automatic car, but this is where the advantages end. The demerits of Automatic cars are
1- Lower efficiency compared to manual cars
2-Higher service costs owing to costly parts like: Torque converter
3-Low-end torque suffers cause the lower segment automatic cars are equipped with 4-speed gearbox.
Driving for driving sake category of drivers would always prefer a manual gearbox since it offer better leverage, control and that an extra bit of driver involvement. That blipping-the-throttle, heel-to-toe downshifts are only possible on a manual gearbox.
So, if you love driving then manual gearbox is the way too go, but if city commute is what you do then automatic would be a intelligent option.
