Android grabs 80% of smartphones all over the world. Since people are getting smarter with it, Google this time became extra smart and came up with an all new interface and lovely animations stuffed in its newest version Lollipop. Its got a revolutionary Material Design where every pixel has depths giving us a 3-Dimensional look. Being a former Kitkat user, I have lots to share with you regarding this Lollipop update. In this post i would like to let you know about something probably most of them don't know. So take interest reading this :)
Firstly let us take a look at he major changes that Google has made from KitKat to Lollipop. This can be helpful for those who are planning to update from KitKat 4.4.4 to Lollipop 5.0.
Lock screen:
The lock screen has been improved slightly with Android 5.0 Lollipop. There's now a short-cut to the dialler, and notifications are stacked on the screen itself. They can be swiped away with a finger push, slide down to expand, or double tap to instantly go into that app or notification. Everything is simple and smooth. The screen is covered with the album art on the lock screen while playing music.
Material Design:
Instead of having a plain and holo outlook, the developers of Google developed an innovative and trending design of interface that pampers your eyes. Every pixel has got a special dimension called “Depth”. Because of this, The layout looks as if some pieces of papers are stacked on the screen. Its got shadows and wavy animations when you touch.
Notification Panel:
The notification panel is quiet different in lollipop compared to previous versions. By a single swipe, you can check your notifications and if you swipe again you can have more settings with small animations. A two finger swipe to down leads you to 'Quicksettings' directly. From here you can toggle WiFi and Bluetooth, head into settings, battery info, turn up the brightness, and more. The notifications are still shown on bottom if needed.
In Android 4.4 KitKat you have to tap the icon in the corner of the first settings screen for the quick settings menu. It's plain, rather boring, and doesn't show notifications at the same time. With Android 5.0 Lollipop this system is improved, and more user friendly.

Recents Menu:
In Android 5.0 there's a new fuller card-style UI for recently opened apps. This is one of my favourite changes in Android 5.0 Lollipop. The circular scrolling effect is rather nice, smooth, fluid, and going back and forth between apps is a breeze. A quick swipe clears them, as usual. The right Multi-tasking button of the navigation keys brings up previously opened apps, which is great for multi-tasking and switching the apps. It was a great experience in previous versions, but it's even better with Lollipop. There is another option called 'Screen Pinning' to make your device locked to one process. It has got so many options to set pin or a password to revert back to normal mode.
Contacts and Dialer:
With Android 5.0 the dialer and contacts apps still look about the same, but have some narrow tweaks and larger font. There's more color in the dialer, and a floating dialer button to go from contacts right to the dialer with ease. You can long-press any contact picture to rearrange as you see fit. You can search your contacts by voice commands in Lollipop. The dialer screen has got some cool animations. All the buttons are rearranged and the contact photo is now visible completely unlike in KitKat.
Performance:
This latest version of Android is made to work on a device with minimum RAM of 512MB. This says how lite the operating system is. The battery life was improved from previous versions. There is an option called “turbo charge” for some phones by which you can charge your battery to 100% just in 15-20 minutes.
Highlights of Lollipop 5.0 and 5.1:
Priority Option:
The brilliant feature for people with busy lives is, “Priority” option. This option keeps our mind free from call and messages upto some time. You can also set priority for the notifications you need this option. When you had a productive day and tired completely, this helps you take a peaceful nap by enabling this feature.
Account Switching:
Google has minimized the strain of switching accounts from one another. Additionally it gave an option to add Guest to our device where you have limited options. By tapping the user icon in the quick settings panel you can have a screen like above where you can easily jump into other google accounts. This is pretty helpful actually.
Hidden Game:
If you are a Flappy Bird fan, then you can play it from the device settings itself instead of downloading it. In place of a simple version description that is seen in previous Android versions Google encrypted a game along with it. You can play this by tapping the 'Android Version' in settings->about for 7 times. Tap and hold on the Lollipop to start the flappy bird themed game.
Quick Settings:
In the latest Lollipop 5.1 you can access Quick settings from lock screen itself. This helps to turn on and off the Bluetooth, Wifi and torch keeping screen locked. However, your friends can still fool you by lowering the brightness when you think they can do nothing.
Smart Lock:
Smart lock is another highlight of this version of Android. Using this feature, the owner need not unlock the device with his pin or password. Again when your friend tries to access your phone, he requires pin or password. The logic is simple. The owner has to set some trusted devices or use a trusted face(probably his). By this the owner need not type his password or pin again through his hands. This decreases this job.
Some minor bugs found on Lollipop 5.0:
Wifi issues:
Few wifi users are facing a problem of not getting connected to their wifi instantly when they turn it ON. Doing a factory reset may help out for these people.
Lagging and Crashing:
Have to ever faced a crash while opening Camera or some other app? Then try rebooting your device. It is always better to check for a software update. Find that it is the root cause of the issue then simply uninstall it.
Video Playback:
Few Nexus 7 2013 users are facing problem while trying to play a video from youtube. For you to fix this, goto settings->developer options and select NuPlayer. You need to enable developer options by heading to “about” and tapping on 'build number' for 7 times. If this still didn’t fix your problem, perform a factory reset.
