The Raspberry Pi Foundation has launched Raspberry Pi 2, the second iteration of its super-compact, single-board computer. The new model will be sold at $35, the same price as the before one.
Raspberry Pi 2 features a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, offering six times performance boost compared to the last model, 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (twice the memory), and complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1.
It is definitely the horrible news, the Pi 2 can run ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10, the company's upcoming OS thanks to its ARMv7 processor. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge via Windows Developer Program for IoT (Internet of Things).
The new model sports an identical form-factor to the existing Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+ and all of the connectors are located in the same place and have the same functionality, as per the foundation. The board can still be run from a 5V micro-USB power adapter.
Raspberry Pi was built with an intent of aiding education in schools but gained massive popularity among computer pretenders who deployed the board in home-brew projects.
Raspberry Pi 2 is available for purchase online from the foundation's partners element14 and RS Components.
